A crown is a fixed prosthetic device usually recommended by dentists to cover a damaged tooth. It helps to improve the appearance, shape and even its alignment. Aside from that, crowns can protect a weak tooth especially if it has the tendency to crack. It can also cover a tooth that has a different tooth or shape. But if there are more than 2 or 3 teeth missing, your dentist might advise you to have bridge.

WHAT ARE DENTAL BRIDGES?

Dental bridge is just a set of crowns. It is advisable for patients who is missing more than 3 teeth. Aside from the esthetic purposes, the benefits of having devices like crowns and bridges are it can help a person speak and eat with more ease. Not to mention, it can also boost a person's self-confidence with their smile.

HOW STURDY CROWNS AND BRIDGES ARE?

Crowns and bridges are a lot sturdier than removable dentures. In fact, it can last a lifetime! But there are also rare instances it become loose and even crack if its support or the bone holding it in place was damaged (for example, by diseases). Therefore, is very important to practice good oral hygiene to ensure the durability of your crown or bridge.

Brushing and flossing your teeth is a good start but do not forget to also have your oral prophylaxis twice a year.  Check-ups and oral cleaning done by professionals also helps to ensure the longevity of your crown or bridge.

Avoid also chewing hard food, ice or other hard objects on the first few weeks of having it installed to allow it to settle first.
